Stem Cell Therapy & Plasma Rich Protein Injections

Plasma rich protein (PRP) injection and stem cell therapy is a non-operative type of treatment that Dr. Tom utilizes to make it possible to heal injuries without requiring surgery or extensive procedures. He also uses this therapy to heal you of chronic injuries that have bothered you for years, for which surgery is not an option. There are several injuries which we treat using PRP and stem cell therapy.

These include:

  • Chronic plantar fasciitis
  • Pelvic pain and instability
  • Back and neck injuries
  • Osteoarthritis of the knee,shoulder,hipandspine
  • Ankle sprains
  • Tennis elbow
  • Ligament sprains
  • Tendinitis

But what exactly happens during PRP and stem cell therapy?

First, Dr. Tom will draw the patient’s blood and then place it in a special machine known as a centrifuge. This machine spins the blood at very high speeds, a process that results in the separation of platelets from other blood components. These separated platelets are concentrated and then re-injected into the injured area. What you need to understand is that platelets accelerate the healing process by releasing growth factors. This makes natural tissue healing possible.

The platelets not only initiate repair, but they also attract the assistance of stem cells. The process of regeneration and remodeling of the damaged tissue is therefore made possible, and this kick-starts the ‘healing process’.

When you are injured, the body naturally seeks to heal by delivering platelet cells to the injured area. Dr. Tom seeks, through PRP and stem cell therapy, to make this process faster and stronger by delivering a high concentration of the platelet cells to the injured part. This means that you will be able to heal faster and better than you would when you wait for the body to heal itself naturally without any assistance.

How long will the procedure take?

Usually, Dr. Tom will need under an hour to perform the procedure on a patient, and this includes preparation and recovery time. Within these hours, Dr. Tom will take you through treatment without the need for surgery, general anesthesia, or extended hospital stays. In fact, you will be able to return to your normal routine right after the procedure.

How often will you require the procedure?

This is an answer that can only be accurately arrived at after consultation between you and Dr. Tom. He recommends up to three injections in a six-month frame. However, it is common for patients to experience reduced pain relief after the first or second injection, which eliminates the need for more injections.

What to expect

Since our Plasma Rich Protein injections and stem cell therapy reduces pain through healing, they have lasting effects. You should expect to feel initial improvement within a few weeks, and as the healing progress, you will continue to feel even better. Ultrasound and MRI scans have confirmed definitive tissue repair after PRP and stem cell therapy, and this means that it is a fact that PRP jumpstarts the healing process.

Whether it is an injury that isn’t healing or a chronic pain which might get worse when left untreated, PRP and stem cell therapy with Dr. Tom in Fort Lauderdale he will offer you the option of getting treatment without having to turn to surgery.
